Meta's Ad Practices Ruled Illegal Under EU Law   

The Irish Data Protection Commission ruled on January 4, 2023  against Meta’s (parent of Facebook and Instagram) advertising business after they found it had illegally forced users to accept personalized ads. Meta was fined 390 million euros ($414 million). This decision may  require Meta to make costly changes to its advertising-base business in the European Union (EU).  The Irish regulator serves as its main regulator in the European Union as its headquarters are in Dublin, Ireland.
