Registration of marriages commenced in Ireland in 1845 with legal registration of births and deaths following from 1864. GRO has digitised all of its historic registers compiled since 1845. All but the earliest death registrations are now available to the public for free on

ABSCONDED CONVICTS  JUL 1844  Trove Tuesday 27th Oct 2020 These lists contain far more detail than most other lists... enough to make you hope that one of your convicts did abscond. 

great detail re descriptions, age, origin, ship, occupation, etc.

     Do check these lists even if you aren't aware of any convicts to date ..this would certainly help you on your way if this is the first time you have come across a familiar name. Also a point to remember is that it is worth investigating if you find a similar name with different spelling.

Convicts assigned and transferred.. July 1832… (the recent post was for May 1832.. )

Trove Tuesday 20th Oct 2020. These entries include the date of arrival, name, ship, occupation .. person assigned to and place. They sometimes include multiple abilities of the convicts… e.g. “ploughs, reaps, sows” … “ postillion and spades man”

A great benefit when trying to trace your convict ancestor or to simply follow the trail of a name of interest.
